Checks and Balances Fine Tunes Another Company's Hiring Process.

The Situation

Our client is the general contractor of choice in the metropolitan Washington, DC, area. They provide the highest quality construction planning, estimating and workmanship since 1959.  The company experiences very low turnover, which is a credit to their thorough vetting of candidates during the selection process; however, the slow pace of the selection process has caused them to lose several high quality candidates.  The general contracting business is so competitive that the war for talent is especially heated.  Our client was looking for ways to speed up the selection process, without losing any of the quality controls already in place and maintaining their overall low rate of turnover.

The Solution

Checks and Balances, Inc. conducted interviews with all of the participants in the current interviewing and selection process.  We created a flow chart and timeline for the existing process, and analyzed those for improvement opportunities.  Based on this analysis, we recommended that our client move to a team interviewing process.  This eliminated up to 9 days of hiring delay, and helped develop a consistency within the actual interviewing process.  It also allowed stakeholders to share candidate opinions immediately, in a face-to-face exchange, rather than a series of emails over time.

Checks and Balances, Inc.’s recommendations were accepted, and all participants received interviewing and selection process training.  Interviewing and selection materials were created for the company to use as future resources, insuring that the new process would continue into the future.

Our client’s time to hire was reduced, and the turnover rate held steady.

So, have you thought of someone who could use our help?
