What is at-will employment?
When legal statute provides for “at-will” employment, this means that either employers or employees can terminate employment relationships at any time and for any reason.
Even with “at will” employment, employers cannot:
Ø Terminate employees for illegal or discriminatory reasons,
Ø Violate collective bargaining agreements or employment contracts, or
Ø Contradict public policy.
Many states have limited the at-will rule, and state requirements must be understood before action is taken based on “at will”.
